About the brand

Created as far back as 1976 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the founding of the city of Zacapa in
Guatemala, Zacapa Rum - aka Ron Zapacpa Centenario - is superior dark rum produced in Guatemala by a
company called Rum Creation and Products, marketed by the renowned Diageo conglomerate. The original
Zacapa rum was the result of careful blending, maturing, and long-aging processes overseen by doctor and
chemist Alejandro Burgaleta. The brand uses specifically harvested virgin sugar cane rather than molasses
in its iterations and once distilled, the rum undergoes a journey from the lowlands of Guatemala to 7,545
feet above sea level where it rests at the "House Above the Clouds" in select wooden barrels and Sistema
Solera aging methodology. Today, Zapaca is known for its Centenario Solera 23 year old Rum, Centenario
Royal Solera Gran Reserva Especial Rum, and Zapaca Edicion Negra - a blend of 6 to 24 year old rums aged

Tasting Notes

Nose

Very sweet and nutty, honey and chocolate. Dark brown sugar, gentle smoke. Pipe tobacco.

Taste

Very sweet and soft. Dark brown sugar, molasses, rounded, so gentle!

Finish

Thick, medium length, hint of smoke on the tail.
