Founded on a long history of masterful tequila making going back as far as 1873, Tequila Fortaleza was launched in 2005 and has quickly become a highly celebrated brand of authentic Mexican tequila. Founding forefather Don Cenobio, great-great-grandfather to owner Guillermo Sauza, was the first person to ever export mezcal from Mexico to the US. Carrying on this legacy of tradition, taste, and quality, Fortaleza has continued to produce fine tequila in the family's 100 year old distillery, named La Fortaleza - or Fortitude. The tequila is crafted using traditional methods, with small brick ovens to cook the aged agave and an ancient tahona wheel made of volcanic rock to crush and squeeze out the macerated fruit juices. Fortaleza tequila is made from 100% agave grown in Jalisco Mexico, matured for at least 8 years before being selected and harvested. Aged in American oak barrels for anywhere from 7 months to 2 years, each varietal of Fortaleza is carefully curated before being bottled in limited quantities.
