Beginning as a wholesaler of wine, Pol Roger founded his own champagne house in 1849 in Valle d’Epernay France, and released his first line of champagne in 1953. Exclusive and masterfully crafted, Pol Roger champagne soon became a favorite among royalty and the brand was awarded the royal warrant for the Austro-Hungarian court as well as for Queen Elizabeth II. Choice champagne for Winston Churchhill since 1908, the brand released a special line of a Pinot noir-dominant variant in 1984 entitled Cuvee Sir Winston Churchill in his honor – a selection that became extremely popular and is still in production today. Pol Roger Champagne has continued a tradition of excellence for over a century and is still owned and operated by decedents of the Roger family, members of which are a part of the Primum Familiae Vini; a highly respected European association of family-owned wineries with membership limited to a mere twelve families.
