Based on the Bowman family's 7,200-acre estate in Virginia US, the A. Smith Bowman Distillery was founded in 1934 - the day after the end of Prohibition. Founder and namesake Abram Smith Bowman ran the facility with his sons, Abram Smith Jr and Delong. At the time of its establishment, Bowman was the only legal whiskey distillery in the Commonwealth of the state of Virginia.
