The estate of Chateau Cheval Blanc is located in the region of Saint-Emilion - a place renowned for its wines and the home of many ancestral chateaux. Records date the estate as far back as the 15 century, with documentation showing the grounds under contract from 1546, and 1587. Moving into the 1800s, Chateau Cheval Blanc was purchased by the President of the Libourne Trade Tribunal - who later passed the estate down to his daughter, Henriette, the wife of famous wine merchant Jean Laussac-Fourcaud. At the time, wines from the estate were formally sold under the name Vine de Figeac, with the brand undergoing a name change in 1852 to Cheval Blanc - denoting the beginnings of a legacy of decadence still alive today. Chateau Cheval Blanc has won multiple awards, including its first gold medal at the 1878 Universal Exhibition of Paris - and is prized throughout the wine world for its unique terroir, blends, and sought-after bottlings. Chateau Cheval Blanc is now under a partnership with world-renowned luxury brand LVMH - who have continued to care for the history and living legacy of this incomparable winery, which was listed as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in the late 1990s.
