About the brand

In 1783, Evan Williams opened Kentucky's first distillery on the banks of the Ohio River. Now owned by Heaven Hill Distillery, Evan Williams is one of the best-selling bourbons in the world, renowned for its rich and smooth character. As of 2010, Evan Williams was the second largest-selling brand of Kentucky straight bourbon (following the market-leading Jim Beam brand) and had the fastest-growing market share among the top-volume American whiskey brands. The "standard issue" Evan Williams bourbon is sold as the mass-market "Black Label" variety. The company also bottles several other varieties, including a "White Label" that is bottled in bond, an "Evan Williams 1783" bourbon that is produced in more limited quantities, and a nine-year-old single barrel bourbon sold in vintage-dated bottles sealed with black wax. Occasionally available in some regions is a "Green Label" variety that is 80 proof and represents a younger, lighter-bodied version of the bourbon found in "Black Label" bottles at a more affordable price.

Strong whiskey at a decent cost

On the button I get a corn-y chomp caramel vanilla a cinnamon/heating flavors sharpness and a lighter measure of cherry and banana. On the taste I despite everything get a greater amount of that equivalent corn note yet with more grounded caramel vanilla oak and heating flavors on the sense of taste. The fruity flavors are more fragile on the taste than the nose for me. As a kind of perspective I have a slight inclination for Evan Williams 1783 despite the fact that it is lower confirmation and an a lot bigger inclination for Wild Turkey 101 which I accept is comparative however more grounded hidden flavors greater intricacy and less corn/malty notes.

Tasting Notes

Nose

Loads of sugary sweetness. Vanilla, caramel, a hint of gingerbread, and candied dark fruit pour forth from the glass in a balanced array sweet scents. It’s light on alcohol and absent of any woody or oak notes making it quite nice, albeit heavy handed with the sweeter elements.

Taste

It almost flattens out on my tongue, settling in the base of my mouth without the spicy, tingly pop on the roof of my mouth that I sometimes notice with higher proof bourbons. Like the nose, flavors of wood and oak are absent here, as sweet notes of vanilla, caramel, burnt brown sugar, and a touch of black pepper take over. It’s full flavored and assertive with a welcomed amount of heat, though I would still describe it as smooth for its proof. It has character, but it’s not complex by any means as it has a somewhat one-dimensional focus on sweeter elements.

Finish

The sweet elements from the palate dissipate quickly with a crisp and abrupt drop-off. A subtle bit of oak creeps in after that, giving way to a fairly dry, medium-length finish.
