1876 Master's Select Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey 750ml
With a name like Old Pogue, many might see an older gentleman with a faded waistcoat sitting on a bench enjoying a cool fall day as the world around him mills about – completely missing the point of existing in their rush to get ‘somewhere’. We’d say that’s a pretty close impression as to how Old Pogue 1876 Master’s Selection Kentucky Straight whiskey tastes; full of knowledge, experience, and the truth that life is too short to miss out on the little things. This edition of Old Pogue is crafted after the original bottle of Old Pogue sipping bourbon that was in the family for over a century. And we can see why they took their time savoring it. The nose is almost dusky with a scent of a leather full tack room mixed with stacks of summer hay and damp, dewy cellar stone. Pops of light butter and maple ride in for a subtle hint of sweetness. The palate is lathered in toasted sweet corn dosed in vanilla bean, roasted red pepper and bites of earthen oak and leather. Old Pogue sipping bourbon gives the gift of the truth about life we all are so slow to learn – time is fleeting, so relax, feel the sun, and let a bit of bourbon warm your soul.

About the brand
Old Pogue has a history dating back to the years following the Civil War. In 1876, the original Pogue distillery, Kentucky registered distillery No. 3, was established in Maysville, Mason County, Kentucky, very near a site often said to be the location of Kentucky's first bourbon distillery. Prior to Kentucky's statehood, Maysville was part of Old Bourbon County, Virginia, where pioneer distillers discovered that the Indian corn and limestone water of the region made a product of mellow character and distinguished flavor. Today, the bourbon-making tradition is carried forward by fifth and sixth generation Pogues using the original Pogue recipes under a time-honored and fixed formula. Our current base of operation is located in the very same plot of land in Maysville, and we are proud to offer superior quality, small-batch bourbon and rye spirits. That was the short version. For you history buffs out there, here is the long version: Following the Revolutionary War, a few venturesome settlers migrated down the Ohio River. One of their first stops was at the junction of the Ohio River with Limestone Creek, an area in centuries past known for buffalo fording the Ohio River and beating a path to inland Kentucky in search of nutrient rich salt licks. This migration pattern was the beginning of old “Buffalo Trace”. Here in the original Bourbon County or "Old Bourbon" as it was commonly called, the settlement of Limestone Landing was formed. Limestone Landing became Maysville, KY in 1792 and the whisky that passed through Maysville was known as Old Bourbon County Whisky.

Nose-Sweet grass and grain. Helps me to remember Irish bourbon. Body-extremely simple on the tongue with vanilla and honeysuckle following by grass and crude peanuts. Finish-the grass proceeds into a trace of lemon get-up-and-go. Awesome!
