About the brand

Canadian Club began its journey into the icon it is today as far back as 1858 when it was founded by Hiram Walker, a respected grain merchant - with its first distillery established soon after in Walkerville, Ontario Canada. The brand was built on the idea of producing distinct whisky that would set it apart from many of the more generic labels out there. Growingly popular in both Canada and across the border in the US, this premium Canadian whisky soon earned the name "Club Whisky" as it was sold exclusively in elite gentlemen's clubs in the US. Because of this popularity, the US government enforced a law that required all Canadian distillers and any Canadian-made whisky to be identified as such on the label, a ruling still applicable to this day. From there - the legacy of Canadian Club was born. Canadian Club Whisky offers several iterations including the original 1858 Canadian Club, Canadian Club 100% Rye, and Canadian Club Apple - a blend of 1858 Canadian Club whisky and artisan apple liqueur that offers notes of crisp apples, cinnamon, and dark caramel. Two things directly off the best: 1. I never figured I would be giving a Canadian Club item a superior survey than I had this at a wedding gathering since it was the main alternative and I didn't kick the bucket so we're considering it a success" and 2. The four stars is intelligent of the flexibility of this present whisky...it's to a greater degree a 3 .5 or so for flavor yet read on and see why I'm gathering together. Subsequent to seeing Distiller's high appraising and since their "Moderate Canadian" list came out right as I was suspecting I ought to do a little boozy investigation of the Incomparable White North I figured it merited a turn. For $20 you're unable to locate a superior rye whisky for calm easygoing tasting with certain companions or (best yet) making mixed drinks. The nose is sweet with clove and newly slashed dill; in the interim the sense of taste some way or another figures out how to be smooth dill pickle-y somewhat hot and somewhat sweet at the same time without turning into a caught up with appearing trainwreck. That is not a half awful exercise in careful control. It's excessively smooth and simple for my own rye inclinations to the extent that drinking flawless goes however I would already be able to envision how great this will be in my go-to summer mixed drinks - Manhattans Old Fashioneds and Sazeracs particularly. I'd even dare to say that a (blasphemy alert) mint julep would be truly conventional with this as the whisky base."

Tasting Notes

Nose

In whisky aged in used barrels, the grain characteristics tend to lead the nose and palate. While Canadian Club Rye uses some new cooperage, based on the nose, I would guess that the ratio of whisky aged in new cooperage to whisky aged in used cooperage leans heavily towards the used cooperage end of the spectrum.

Taste

The front of the palate leads off with light baking spice notes and cream. As the flavor develops, the toasted grain notes from the nose emerge with a slight bitter edge. In the mid-palate, a light floral note from the rye grain balances with the spice notes, and a sweet undertone of caramel and vanilla rounds out the flavor profile.

Finish

The finish, a toasted grain note mixes with less pronounced notes of cinnamon and clove. At 80 proof, it isn’t surprising that the finish is light and short.
