Small Batch Rye Whiskey 750ml
Dad’s Hat Rye was founded to do it the right way. Tapping into the agricultural richness of Pennsylvania, the distillery partners with local farms to obtain the highest quality grain while offering fair pricing. Right down to the glass bottles and the distinctive labels, all are produced with strategic partners from Pennsylvania. The recipe was formulated when both Cooper and Mihalich worked with the Artisan Distilling Program at Michigan State University over a two year period and is modeled after the 200 year old traditional Pennsylvania rye whiskey using traditional 500-gallon pot still with a more modern side column. Aged in charred quarter casks, the mature whiskey is blended by the master distiller to produce the right balance and complexity.

About the brand
Our mission is to distill and deliver classic Pennsylvania Rye spirits following over 200 years of American distilling tradition. Working with our community and giving back to the whiskey-loving public is a big part of what truly keeps Dad’s Hat “Pennsylvania Proud”. American farmers saw homemade distilling as their right and when, in 1791, the new United States Federal Government imposed a whiskey tax these same farmers threatened to secede from the union. This incident, known as the Whiskey Rebellion, was obviously not successful, but it was surely an indication of how important rye whiskey was to our country’s early history. Pennsylvania rye was known not just for the independent nature of its makers, but also for the quality of the product itself. As early as 1810, Pennsylvania’s distillers were making over 6 million gallons of rye whiskey annually. Throughout the 1800’s the size and reputation of Pennsylvania’s rye whiskey producers continued to grow. By the end of the 1800s individual distilleries in Pennsylvania were making hundreds of thousands, and some over a million gallons of whiskey per year. Pennsylvania Rye Whiskey was prized across the United States and around the world. Rye whiskey was a particular specialty served at the Mihalich family’s tavern in Monessen, PA. As a child, Dad’s Hat Founder Herman Mihalich lived with his family above the bar, and both his father and grandfather were fond of the all-American spirit. Inspired by a 2006 story about the reemergence of rye, Mihalich, along with his friend John Cooper, would later go on to found Mountain Laurel Spirits in 2011 in Bristol becoming the first Pennsylvania distillery to make rye whiskey since 1990.

Fathers Cap Pennsylvania Rye bourbon is an endeavor to reproduce the Rye bourbon style that was refined in Pennsylvania before Washington (the President that is) put down the Bourbon Disobedience in 1794. This Pennsylvania or Monongahela style Rye is America's first indigenous refined soul. An extraordinary article about the historical backdrop of Americas Rye bourbon can be found at https://www.thedailybeast.com/how-pennsylvania-rye-bourbon lost-its-route However on to the tasting. This bourbon is packaged at 45% ABV. Fathers Cap is produced using a squash bill of 80% Rye/5% malted Rye/15% malted grain. NO CORN!! This absence of corn is obvious in the sense of taste of this measure: there is practically no pleasantness. It is a medium/dull golden in the glass. It delivers a thick slick covering on the glass just hesitantly surrendering some long legs. There is no age proclamation past least a half year". It is accounted for that Fathers Cap utilizes 15 gallon containers for maturing bringing about essentially quicker maturing. It is clear in the tasting of this measure; it appears to be increasingly similar to a 3-4 yr old. The nose of this bourbon is RYE! Like Rye bread with dim nectar. There is orange jelly the harsh kind with Seville oranges. Traces of cherry hack syrup. Additionally an extremely slight liquor ignite with some oak scorch. The sense of taste is totally different: woody hot calfskin malted grain. There is next to zero pleasantness. None of the run of the mill whiskey kinds of vanilla and caramel. It has a sleek mouthfeel. Water improves the malty/grain tones. The completion is somewhat hot from the outset with a dry oak zest flavor waiting. This is a genuinely extraordinary bourbon. It shares little to nothing practically speaking with the greater part of the ryes you find on the rack of your nearby alcohol store. It runs $45-50 on the web. I don't have the foggiest idea whether I would keep this jug as a staple however it is unquestionably worth difficult as a demonstration of the historical backdrop of American spirits. Strong 4.0/5. Good health!"
