Established by a team of retired Green Berets, the American Freedom distillery took it upon themselves to give back to the veteran community by prioritizing the hiring of veterans and creating superb spirits that honor the bravery of our men and women in uniform. These include their Horse Soldier label – named after the soldiers who fought on horseback in Afghanistan in the months following 9/11. Serving as their flagship expression, the Horse Soldier Straight Bourbon Whiskey is a wheated bourbon made from a mash bill consisting of 70% yellow dent corn, 20% wheat, and 10% barley. After being distilled, the bourbon spends a total of 8 years in new, charred American oak barrels to slowly develop its distinctive flavor profile before being bottled at a hearty 95 proof, the number being another callback to the horse soldiers as it was also their Special Forces Team Number. Each sip conveys a rich nose of musty oak, sweet corn, sugar cookie, vanilla cream, and leather notes, paving the way for an oak-driven palate supported by white pepper, oxtail candy, vanilla caramel, corked wine, and cookie dough undertones tied together by medium finish of vanilla, sweet corn, nutmeg, and touch of spice. Tasting Notes

Nose

Caramel, toasted corn, oak, cinnamon and dark fruit nose.

Taste

The taste is fantastic with hints of oak, vanilla, nutmeg, some mild black pepper spice, and a light bit of honey.

Finish

Good balance, medium body and a warm spicy feel.
