Small Batch Straight Bourbon Whiskey 750ml
Boone County Distilling Co. has announced the release of their new Small Batch Straight Bourbon Whiskey, hitting shelves in limited markets this weekend. While previous releases from Boone County in their popular high-rye Eighteen33 line have been age stated at ten years and above, the distillery is blending small batches of both both older and younger barrels for the newest expression. The team personally selected barrels between 5 and 14 years old for this release, which is bottled at 90.8 proof. Tasting notes provided by the distillery include a nose with “light notes of aged oak, vanilla, almond, and sugar cookie,” and “sweet oak, caramel, vanilla, and almond biscuit” on the palate. On the finish we’re told to expect “a dash of aged rye and a pinch of cinnamon.” Boone County has even more exciting news on the horizon. Next year in 2020, the distillery expects to release their own distillate when their barrels reach five years of age. They’re also now a card-carrying member of Northern Kentucky’s B-Line, the regional version of the Bourbon Trail, so if you haven’t yet planned a trip that way, it might be time.

About the brand
In 1833 in Kentucky’s Boone County, a region of proud limestone hills that gradually fell to their knees at the banks of the Ohio River, a man named William Snyder made a decision that would impact the region 182 years later: He decided to buy a flour mill. And within three years he had begun operating a distillery in conjunction with the mill. Soon, his whiskey business was one of the largest in the nation, and far exceeded his profits in flour. And while we might consider Snyder an extraordinary man, he was typical of those with a pioneering spirit back in the day. They saw opportunity, and took risks. For them, the biggest risk was in doing nothing. It’s in a similar pioneering spirit that Boone County Distilling Company is now making authentic bourbon whiskey in the northern hills of Kentucky. Their brand is a living tribute to those that came before, men like Snyder and others, including Col William Appleton, J.C. Jenkins and James Gaff. Julius Freiberg and Levi Workum. Their stories infuse the Boone County brand with truth and determination. They are all part of the story.

Slick. Traces of oak in advance. Heaps of organic product. Apples and fruits. Minimal vanilla. Preparing flavors shape everything together. Pleasant mouth feel. Doesnt seem to be slight however it is light on the tongue. Vanilla cream forthright on the sense of taste. Those flavors and organic products come punching on the taste. Bring through to tolerable legs. Its tasty. Out of line to contrast with 1833 however it needs 1833s profundity. A ton of the nose and tasting notes rhyme with 1833 however are quieted by examination. This is seemingly more receptive than 1833. Its a receptive delightful yet somewhat shallow MGP. Anticipating attempting this again when it opens up a piece.
