About the brand
Knob Creek is a brand of Kentucky straight bourbon whiskey produced by Beam Suntory at the Jim Beam
distillery in Clermont, Kentucky. It is one of the four Jim Beam small batch bourbon brands targeted for the
high-end liquor market. Its siblings in the line are Booker's, Baker's, and Basil Hayden's. The primary
expression of the brand is bottled at 100 proof (higher than the typical 80 that is the minimum required by
U.S. Federal labeling requirements). Knob Creek was aged for nine years until late 2016, when Beam Suntory
removed the age statement from the label due to tight inventory that could not be guaranteed to be aged
the full nine years. In mid 2019 Beam Suntory announced the age statement would return to bottle labels
sometime in 2020 Knob Creek comes in a rectangular bottle with a corked or twist-on cap and wax-sealed
top. The bourbon has a dark, golden-brown color. According to the company, this is due to the relatively long
aging process, which allows it to absorb more sugar from the wood than is the case for the other Jim Beam……

This is a perfect balance between the 12 and the 18, in my opinion.The 12 is a nice pour and one of my favorites, but the 15 adds just a bit more oak, vanilla, and caramel before getting over-oaky.The 18 pushes it just over the line for my taste.Good balance of sweet, brown sugar notes. Touch of vanilla and that JBMash popcorn/peanut brittle flavor is still hiding in the back (personally, I love that taste). Oak is pretty forward but not overwhelming, tannins are kept in check, and the mouthfeel is middle of the road.Wouldn't call it creamy or rich, but it's not thin and watery either.In my opinion, it tastes like a mellowed, easy-drinking version of the JB Lineage GTR release.Just wish it wasn't a one-off.
