Deerhammer Distilling Company American Single Malt Whiskey 750ml Bottle

While the The American singlt malts are getting better and better – and a bigger variety, the distilleries are not nearly as quaint as those in Scotland, Ireland, etc. Deerhammer is located in Buena Visa, Colorado, and produced tonight’s dram. The nose is lovely cherry blossoms and honey. At first, you just want to keep smelling it… then you have to have a taste. The palate opens boldly with black cherries, apricots, and honeycomb, followed by red pepper flakes and cracked black pepper, then candied orange with orange peel, dark chocolate, and cinnamon. Through it all the malted barley and yeast are ever-present in the background, coming more to foreground in the finish, with a touch of salininty – like feshly-backed bread with butter and salt on the crust. It has a creamy mouthfeel and thick legs that deliver a long warming spicy finish of orange, dark chocolate, toffee, and black pepper. This is a fabulous dram! Drink slow, drink long, drink a variety, drink often.
