Fortaleza Tequila is produced and bottled on a pristine family estate in Tequila, Jalisco, Mexico, and honors the traditions and methods of authentic tequila-making established over 125 years ago. Known as Los Abuelos outside of the US, Fortaleza offers some of the finest tequila on the market today - processing hand-harvested agave using a volcanic-rock tahona wheel pulled by an electric tractor (used in place of their mule after he passed). Carefully roasting the matured agave in brick ovens for 3 days, the mash is fermented for 3.5 days in a large, open-aired wooden fermentation vat then double-distilled in custom alembic stills. This featured iteration of Fortaleza Reposado Tequila is then matured for a minimum of 7 months in re-chipped/re-charred American oak ex-bourbon barrels and bottled at 40% ABV. About the brand

Founded on a long history of masterful tequila making going back as far as 1873, Tequila Fortaleza was launched in 2005 and has quickly become a highly celebrated brand of authentic Mexican tequila. Founding forefather Don Cenobio, great-great-grandfather to owner Guillermo Sauza, was the first person to ever export mezcal from Mexico to the US. Carrying on this legacy of tradition, taste, and quality, Fortaleza has continued to produce fine tequila in the family's 100 year old distillery, named La Fortaleza - or Fortitude. The tequila is crafted using traditional methods, with small brick ovens to cook the aged agave and an ancient tahona wheel made of volcanic rock to crush and squeeze out the macerated fruit juices. Fortaleza tequila is made from 100% agave grown in Jalisco Mexico, matured for at least 8 years before being selected and harvested. Aged in American oak barrels for anywhere from 7 months to 2 years, each varietal of Fortaleza is carefully curated before being bottled in limited quantities.
